Hints & Tips for using our paint....

Movie Match Paint is a specially formulated non toxic paint designed to be used via airbrush or brush. The paint has very high adhesion, although we would always ensure the surface to be painted is dry and free from grease. For 3D printed PL and Resin kits a suitable primer is always recommended.

 

For Brush application: no need to thin the paint just decant directly from the bottle (after a good shake) onto a suitable palette. Apply to large area's with a flat brush. Lighter colours may require 2 or 3 coats but they will provide a solid lightfast coat. Make sure each coat of paint is dry before adding the next. DO NOT force dry, allow to dry naturally. All colours can be intermixed, Metallic and Iridescent colours require careful single coat application using a wide flat brush. To create more subtle effects the iridescent and strong metallic's can be diluted with STO17 Iridescent White - all are intermixable. The paint can also be thinned with our Thinner to produce washes, but always test the effect you are looking for before committing to the model. Wash out Brushes with warm soapy water. Keep the bottle applicator nozzle clean.
 

For Airbrush Application: Movie Match Acrylic is designed to be airbrushed at 20 - 25psi (gravity feed) and 25 - 35psi (Syphon feed), for Nozzle/Needle sets of 0.3 - 0.5mm. Although we have a specifically formulated Thinner for our paints (which allow thinning ratios from 20 - 05%). They are also compatible with the following types. Mr Hobby Aqueous Thinner, Mr Hobby Levelling Thinner, Tamiya X-20 and Railmatch Waterbourne Thinner SAH531. Although most other water based thinners should work, We would always test before mixing to make sure. Generally for std single coating thin the paint with 20 - 30% Thinner: Do Not mix in the airbrush cup, always mix in a suitable container with a good quality brush and then decant into your airbrush. The coverage of our paint is excellent, you should be (with the saint properly diluted), able to cover over Base Black with Base White in a single pass. If you cannot? Then the paint is too thin. Do not spray under 20psi. Do Not Spray over 40psi as this will cause spraying problems from excessive tip dry, to imperfect atomisation and drying issues.
 

Clean out your airbrush with Water in between colours. Always clean with Warm Soapy Water for a final
deep clean, then clean and flush with strong solvent after the end of a session. Our paint is highly adhesive especially on metal. A word of Warning. Some cleaners such as Mr Hobby Tool Cleaner are not compatible with our paint and will turn it into a solid like paste, always test your cleaner before using it to avoid Airbrush catastrophes. We suggest Cellulose Thinner or Acetone for a final clean and flush through. Always oil your needle after final flush before reinserting to keep your airbrush seals lubricated.
